Favorite Vegan Art Supplies

Coloring is slowly taking over my life… half kidding. Between weekly coloring parties, creating new books, and hosting virtual coloring events, I spend a lot of time thinking about coloring, and which tools I’m going to use. Here are some of my favorites!

Adding Details

DecoColor Markers

These are some of my favorite paint markers. When I use them for coloring pages, it’s often for the background if I want a dark, consistent color. Or little details. For example, I will often use gold or white to add a bit of a “shiny” illusion.

They are also great for craft projects, and can be used on canvas. I do not recommend them for outdoor use though.

White Gelly Rolls

These are also great for coloring! I use my white Gelly Roll pen to add a bit of shine or reflection on things, to make my coloring look a little more realistic. These work great over water-based markers, and colored pencils.

I’ve found that size 8 is a good one-size-fits-all for coloring. But depending on the project you may want to go with a 5 or a 10.

Colored Pencils

Faber-Castell Classics

Faber-Castell Classics are great for every day coloring. The hues are vibrant, and great for blending. Because of this, you can blend together pretty much any color you can imagine!

Faber-Castell Polychromos

These are some of my favorite colored pencils. They are considered “professional” grade colored pencils and really great for layering. I love that they are vegan, and use California redwoods. I also love the color selection. You get so many! No matter which kit you buy, you will never lack color options.

I also love using markers! I usually use basic water-based markers for coloring. I’ve found that alcohol-based markers are too “heavy” most of the time. Although I wouldn’t recommend water-based markers for professional art projects, they are a great additional to your coloring toolbox.

The Faber-Castell water based markers come in sooooo many colors. I love them. They have just about every color I need in their larger kits.
