Creating a Color Grid For Your New Colored Pencils

Is there anything more exciting than getting a new set of colored pencils? You just want to color everything! But… taking a few minutes (or an hour) to add each pencil to a color grid, can be invaluable to your coloring journey. Knowing what each color looks like with minimal to hard pressure, can save you so much time when looking for the perfect color to use. You will never have to guess what a color will look like on paper, because you’ve already taken the time to find out. Plus it’s super relaxing, and isn’t that why we color in the first place?

When I got my new set of Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, I created this grid by hand. Worth it. But it took a bit of time to measure out the rows, etc. Then I went through each color, applying the most pressure, and then gradually lightening my stroke, so I could see the full range each pencil created. Then I wrote down the color and number.

Now, whenever I need to reference my color grid it’s there and happy to help me. If you want to create your own, I highly recommend it. To make it easy, I’ve created a grid for you to download. It already has all the lines and boxes so you can save time, and start coloring. Print as many sheets as you need for each of your pencil kits, and enjoy!

Happy coloring!!
